An Artist's Ears and Eyes

An Artist's Ears and Eyes

Such the little lady, and such the artist,
What I would give to spend a moment
Behind her eyes, and see a glimpse
Of exactly what her eyes see because
She sees such detail, she hears it, too,
Picking up on even subtle inflections
In song sung, or a one liner delivered
With perfect comic timing. Ask her to do
Nemo, or Ducky, or even Tinker Bell,
She’ll belt off perfectly imitated lines,
“No, Excuse me,” or “There I was all
Alone in the dark.” See her drawings,
Where every inch of negative space
Is filled with expression and action,
Each detail chosen and given its life
In creative intention. The future stretches
Out ahead of her, explosive potential,
Packaged beautifully, at only six years.
So many directions, paths, stand ahead.
I cannot wait to see each careful step
She’ll take, growing, maturing, learning
To love, and live as her life exactly is.

Happy 6th Birthday! Coralee
