Mom Away from Mom
Peter T. Atkinson
I grew up with a mom
A mom who was always there
But as I moved out to the world
She could not be everywhere
Without her close, a need with in me grew
I reached out for something, luckily I found you
I first met your son
We were brothers from that point on
Through him our friendship found
A home and place of solid ground
You filled a need that has now grown
A home feeling found when oh so far from home
You’re my mom away from Mom
Comfort compassion, support away from home
You’re my mom away from Mom
You’ve treated me just like I was your own
A blessing now it seems
An answer to a dream
Thank you so much for being
My mom away from Mom
Of course you don’t
Try to take the place
You’re just there
With a hug a friendly face
The support you give continues to this day
I’m so glad that I’ve gotten the chance to say
You’re my mom away from Mom
Comfort compassion, support away from home
You’re my mom away from Mom
You’ve treated me just like I was your own
A blessing now it seems
An answer to a dream
Thank you so much for being
My mom away from Mom
